Oulu Laboratory Animal Centre (OULAC) is a part of the infrastructure platform, responsible for laboratory animals’ services. OULAC provides animals and facilities for animal experimentation and advice in research using animals, along with wide range of research services. These services are provided for research at the University of Oulu and the Oulu University Hospital, and for external clients according to separate agreements.

Central Animal Laboratory, University of Turku (UTUCAL) operate in compliance with the OECD Principles of Good Laboratory Practice (GLP) therefore all functions and activities are strictly recorded and performed according to SOPs (standard operating procedures). UTUCAL is included in the National GLP Compliance Program in Finland and inspected on regular basis by the Finnish Medicines Agency (FIMEA). UTUCAL performs GLP and non-GLP research services including safety and toxicity studies for medicines and medical devices, and provides online LAS education courses for EU Function A, B, D.

Natural Resources Institute Finland (Luke)

The Natural Resources Institute Finland carries out research on domestic and production animals, including fish farming. Research is carried out in a wide range of areas related to animal genetics and breeding, animal behaviour and welfare, feeding, production technologies and economics, and nutritional physiology, taking into account the impact on the environment, society and the quality of the final product. Research is carried out mainly on dairy and beef cattle, horses, pigs, poultry, fish (mainly rainbow trout), reindeer and insects (black soldier fly), including native species.
